  • Through the Silence Still One Word

From my book The Lone Knight of Kemsing:

Through the silence still one word
Does Scripture give to seize us
When from Joseph there was heard
The name he called Him, “Jesus”

  • The Plan is His

A poem from my book A Craftsman at Play in Creation

In a moment all things can change,
    And circumstances rearrange,

So what you saw ahead for you,
    Shifts suddenly to something new

For while it’s true there is a plan,
A course our Lord plots for each man,

Remember that the plan is His,
And seldom what you think it is

  • That a Day Should Thus Begin

from my book The Lone Knight of Kemsing

    The stirring of the wind,
    Whispering through the trees,
    And flowing through the grasses,
On the meadow like the seas

    The early morning calling,
Of the birds as they take flight,
And the lingering of the moon,
    Into morning after night

To sit on such a morning,
To see and breath it in,
For this gift I thank you Lord,
That a day should thus begin

  • Joining Us Like Links of Chain

From my book The Lone Knight of Kemsing

The time my children will be with me
Comes quickly to an end, I see

And leaves me wishing to reclaim
Each time I heard them call my name

Each call a knock upon the door,
A chance for me to try once more

    To delve into the mystery
    That continues to eternity

When faith and hope have burned away
In the brightness of that coming day

When only Love will then remain,
Joining us like links of chain

  • Joseph Asked Before He Died

    by Jake Frost

From my book: A Craftsman at Play in Creation

Great Joseph, he, the mighty one,
    Who stood astride the Nile,
Hovered just this side of death
    And spoke before its trial

    “Promise me before I die
    My bones shall not remain
    Within this land of servitude
    Where once I gathered grain,”

“Grain that made the Pharoah strong
As with bread he forged a chain
Which I can see one day shall bind
Those who fled the drought of rain,”

“Yet still the grain that I preserved
    God ordained for Jacob’s sons
    For from Abraham through Israel
    His covenant still runs,”

“My father Jacob saw in dreams
And poured out on the stone
And wrestled with an angel when
    Awaiting Esau all alone,”

    “The many-colored cloak he gave
To his son who dreamed as he
That dipped in blood broke his heart
    When into slavery,”

“For shekels of silver that sone was sold
By brothers who cast him in the pit
But God ordained that son one day
    In authority to sit,”

“For God through trial fitted him
Like an arrow to the string
To do His will when came the time
His grace to Jacob’s sons to bring,”

“For well does Noah’s Archer know
The bow and draw its string with might
And by His hand the arrow guides
Even as it speeds in flight,”

“His is the bow of many hues,
As was the coat that I once wore,
And He works through dreams and lowly things,
In which men put little store.”

“I have seen His bow span the sky,
And I have known in life His grace,
And now I go to journey on,
At last to see His face,”

“I have also seen the day will come
When forth from this land of toil
    God will lead out Israel
    Bearing Egypt’s spoil,”

“Bear also away my bones that day,
To where in my vision gleams,
The land which since my bondage day,
I have seen always in my dreams,”

“Across the Jordan let them go,
To where the Oaks of Mamre stand,
With my fathers there at last to rest,
    Within The Promised Land.”

  • A Parent’s Prayer

    from my book: Victory!

    In bits and parts
    And fits and starts
I pray all through the day

    In things I do
    With love for you
    As I give myself away

  • Victory!

    From my book, Victory!

Palm fronds strewn upon the road
Covered the dust where the donkey strode
Who carried the King of Peace to war
And well He knew what lay in store

The kiss, the scourge, and the crown
Thrice His falling to the ground
    Then His Cross lifted high
Between the earth and the sky

All this He knew, yet He obeyed
And at last Adam’s dragon slayed
The dark of the tomb He would see
    But after three days, victory!

  • The Little Things

    The Little Things

    by Jake Frost

From my book: Wings Upon the Unseen Gust

The little things, a word, a hug,
Still at our heartstrings gently tug

And linger on all through the years
A ray of dawn amid the tears

Because the thought that they convey
Our souls have caught and tucked away

  • Where was Peter Going

From my book: Wings Upon the Unseen Gust

    Where was Peter going
When back he turned that day
    After Jesus met him
    Walking on his way?

    What journey then was lost?
    What path was left untrod?
    When back Peter turned again
    At the word of God?

    There remains a mystery
    In roads we never take
    But we sometimes travel farthest
On the journeys we never make

  • Saint Brendan

from the book: From Dust to Stars, Poems by Jake Frost

    At Saint Ailbe’s Abbey,
In the silent island f the sea,

    Saint Brendan asked to stay,
But the ancient abbot answered, “Nay,”

“It is not to be,” said he,
“God calls you out to sea,”

“He has wonders there to show,”
“Wonders He wills that you would know.”

    “He bids journey, sails unfurled,”
    “Again into His wonder-world,”

“To search the secrets of His creation,”
    “Secrets hid since time’s foundation,”

“To see what yet no eye has seen,”
“And know what yet no man has dreamed.”

And so upon the waves once more
Brendan pushed his coracle from the shore

And cast himself upon the brine
There to seek what he would find

    Crossing wide the heaving swell
In search of what the world would tell

He set off to wander and explore
And knock upon the hidden door

And when he saw, but could not see
What some hidden thing might be,

    He prayed to God fervently,
    “Reveal to me this mystery,”

“Of Your world that You have made,”
“Let me know what is,” he prayed

And as he sought, so was it shown
And the secret of wonders to him made known

Thus many marvels did he find,
    Dazzling to man’s questing mind

So that the hermit Paul confessed,
    “Wandering Brendan, you are blessed,”

“For to you has God revealed”
“Things which were before kept sealed.”

So to all you who would seek know,
Who in dreams the seeds of wonder sow,

Nurture the wonder so that it grows,
And follow the way that Brendan shows,

For since first there was mystery to unwind,
It has been given to those who seek that they shall find
